The incident occurred earlier this morning
Emergency services were called to the scene of an incident on the M7 northbound this morning, just before Junction 12 Newbridge.
The road was closed from 8am and has not yet re-opened.
Traffic is backed up as far back as Kildare Town, with motorists being urged to come off the M7 at Junction 13 and use what is known locally as the 'Old Road'.
