Irish Peacekeeping Role In Lebanon Faces Key UN Vote Ahead Of Mandate Expiry

The current mandate is due to expire on Sunday.

The future of Irish peacekeeping missions in Lebanon will be decided today.

The UN Security Council will be asked to vote on the UNIFIL missions renewal, and its expected it will be extended until late 2027.

The current mandate is due to expire on Sunday.

Irish troops have been peacekeeping in South Lebanon since 1978, with over 300 soldiers currently in the region.
