ISAG is holding an online public meeting on its draft discussion paper on the return to school today.
The Independent Scientific Advisory Group says, without "urgent action" there will be "mass infection of unvaccinated school-going children".
At present, children under the age of 12 are not being vaccinated against Covid 19.
On Tuesday, the Irish Pharmacy Union said up-take of vaccinations among children aged 12 to 15 is 'nothing like' as strong as it was among young adults.
The rollout among the younger age-group began last week.
ISAG, which is holding an online public meeting on its draft discussion paper on the return to school today, says "some unvaccinated children will end up in hospital due to COVID-19" and "a significant proportion of infected children will suffer the harm of Long Covid"
It is proposing, among other measures, weekly mass-testing in school settings, installing CO₂ monitors permanently in each classroom and preparing for the vaccination of under 12’s as, if, and when this is approved.
