The jury in the trial of a man accused of murdering his friend in Co Kildare has heard how the remains were found in a shallow grave weeks after he went missing.

"Mick Kelly told the jurors that he was out for a walk in Rahin Wood, Co Kildare on the evening of September 2nd 2016 when his two dogs ran into some thick bushes.
He said he chased after them and followed their barks until he found them running around what he thought was the root of a tree sticking out of the ground.
When he realised it wasn’t, he said he tried to call the local garda station and walked back towards his jeep where he bumped into two of his friends.
One of them, Ivan Pollard, told the court that Mick looked startled, and he thought he was joking when he told him what he’d found, so he went in for a look.
He said he saw a foot sticking out of the ground.
Stephen Penrose is accused of murdering Phillip Finnegan and trying to dispose of his body at Rahin Woods just over three weeks beforehand. He denies the charge."
