A new report has revealed that 26 pubs have closed in Kildare since 2005, reflecting a broader national trend of pub closures across Ireland.
Commissioned by the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland (DIGI), the report highlights that 2,119 pubs have shut their doors nationwide over the past two decades - a 24.6% decline.
Kildare saw a 13.6% drop (26) in licensed pubs during the same period.
Economist Professor Tony Foley, who authored the report, warns that a further 600 to 1,000 pubs could close over the next decade unless government support is introduced.
