Kildare County Council has signed a contract that will deliver a new fire station to Maynooth.
The Council has assigned M. L. Quinn Ltd as the main contractor for the new fire station, with the signings taking place last Friday.
The new site for for the fire station is located at Mullin Park, Maynooth and has been designed by a multi-disciplined team led by Vincent Hannon and Associates Architects.
The €4.4m project is being funded by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, through the National Directorate for Fire and Emergency Management.
A key component of the construction of the new 3-bay appliance facility will be the introduction of environmentally friendly features, including the installation of PV panels, air-to water heating systems, as well as insulation of doors, windows, roof, floor and walls to improve conservation of energy to current building regulations standards.
The new design will also incorporate a training yard with drill tower, lecture room, canteen and staff facilities.
The facilities will also include individual changing areas for each crew member.
Maynooth fire station was mobilised to 378 incidents in 2023, making it third busiest of the 6 fire stations in Kildare.
