Kildare has seen no increase in Garda youth crime officers in five years, despite population growth and a national overhaul of Garda divisions.
Figures seen by Kfm show the county still has three Juvenile Liaison Officers (JLOs), the same number as in 2020.
Under the Garda’s new operating model, those officers now serve the combined Kildare–Carlow division, with no extra staff assigned.
By contrast, the Dublin North Division doubled its JLO numbers from seven to fourteen since 2020, while Louth–Cavan–Monaghan has five and Cork City has maintained seven.
Nationally, there are now 115 JLOs, up from 109.
The Department of Justice says the new model aligns Garda operations under larger “Community Engagement Areas” but Kildare's JLOs have not increased.
Kildare also has four Youth Diversion Projects - in Athy, Celbridge, Naas and Newbridge - with about 18 full-time staff supporting young people at risk of offending.
Nationally, there are 548 youth justice workers across diversion projects.
