Funding part of €300,000 national scheme supporting sport and wellbeing initiatives.
A total of €7,750 has been awarded to community groups across Kildare as part of a €300,000 national fund aimed at promoting physical activity among older people.
The funding comes under the Age & Opportunity Active National Grant Scheme, supported by Sport Ireland, which will benefit more than 1,000 organisations nationwide this year.
In Kildare, a wide range of groups received support, including Naas Community Men’s Shed, Newbridge Women’s Shed, North Kildare Bowls Club, Monasterevin Community Centre, and the Irish Wheelchair Association in Athy and Clane.

The grants will help fund activities such as walking, cycling, dancing, pickleball and table tennis, as well as the purchase of equipment and the organisation of local events.
Minister of State at the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport Charlie McConalogue TD said: “This Scheme supports local clubs, groups and organisations in growing participation in sport and physical activity among older people. Over 1,000 groups will directly benefit from the announcement which will have a positive impact across the country in terms of providing older people with more opportunities to exercise."
Nationally, the scheme aims to increase participation in sport and physical activity among older people, with tens of thousands taking part in funded initiatives each year.
