The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth made the announcement today
The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth have announced funding for four new Local Area Child Poverty Plans, with Kildare being one of the areas included.
The Kildare Children and Young People's Service Committees (CYPSC) and the Kildare Local Community and Development Committee (LCDC) will both be receiving funding under the new Local Area Child Poverty Plans.
Published in their 2023-2025 Summary, the Kildare CYPSC aims to increase awareness at all levels – local, regional and national - of the particular needs and challenges in Kildare for children, young people and families.
The role of Kildare LCDC is to bring together local authority members and officials, state agencies, representatives from local, community, economic, cultural and environmental development to agree on the priorities for the county and work together to respond to them.
In response to this announcement, Chief Executive of the Children's Rights Alliance Tanya Ward said: "We are delighted to see the announcement today of funding for four new Local Area Child Poverty Plans. Supporting local talent and communities to address child poverty is an important part of breaking the cycle.
"We know that one in every five children experienced deprivation last year. Child poverty is an issue impacting thousands of children and families, across every county and every community. It is very positive to see Government supporting and resourcing solutions from the ground up in order to address child poverty and its impact on children.
"To end child poverty, we need to see a national and local responses and through localised funding, we can empower communities to deliver innovative and targeted interventions that effectively address the multi-faceted nature of child poverty".
