Deputy Lawless circulated a newsletter around the village
Fianna Fail TD for Kildare North James Lawless, along with Cllr. Carmel Kelly, provided the residents of Sallins with an update over the weekend regarding the accommodating of refugees at the Waterways.
In a newsletter, seen by Kfm, the following information was included:
- "It's expected that the centre, at the vacant 'Waterways Hotel' site, will provide accommodation to 112 people
- Accommodation is in 56 double and twin rooms, with 2 persons per room
- Residents are envisaged as being a mix of couples and singles, both men and women
- These will be applicants for international protection, drawn from around the world
- It is expected the centre will be ready in January or February 2024
- Community feedback is being noted and will feed into the plans being developed
- The property will hire 20-25 local staff when operational, across a range of roles
- The centre will function like a small hotel and is compatible with future use as one"
Kfm understands that the composition of the centre has not yet been confirmed by the Department of Integration.
