She’ll be sentenced later this month
A 25-year-old woman who posted a photo of one of the two boys who murdered Ana Kriègel has described what she did as "the biggest mistake" she has ever made.
Hazel Fitzpatrick, from Easton Road, Leixlip, Co Kildare, said she knew she shouldn’t reveal his identity but never expected the gardaí to come knocking on her door.
Our Courts Correspondent Frank Greaney reports:
"On June 18th 2019, two teenage boys were found guilty of murdering 14yo Kildare schoolgirl, Ana Kriègel, at a derelict farmhouse in Lucan, Co Dublin.
Because of their age, the media was prohibited from naming them throughout their trial. They were simply referred to as BOY A and BOY B.
The court heard Hazel Fitzpatrick was aware that there was also a court order in place when she took a screenshot of a photo she found online purporting to be BOY A, which she then shared on Facebook the day after the verdicts with the caption:
“Name and shame the c**ts. Justice was served but they should never be allowed see daylight again. Two sickos”
She said she shared it because she was angry and upset and thought it was wrong that their identities were protected.
The court accepted it was a spontaneous and “utterly misguided” foray into criminality.
She’ll be sentenced later this month."
