The mother of a child assaulted at a creche by a Naas teacher has called for more oversight and CCTV cameras in settings that deal with vulnerable children.

She said CCTV was crucial in securing a conviction against Tanya Shortt (36), from Esmondale, Kilcullen Road, Naas - a former preschool teacher at Play and Language Support (PALS) in Finglas, Dublin.
She was convicted last month of assaulting two autistic children under her care in January 2023.
She received two two-month suspended sentences at Blanchardstown District Court and avoided jail.
Shortt sent a letter of apology before sentencing, admitting to failings and stating she would never work with children again.
Parents rejected the apology, calling it insincere.
Marie said vulnerable children need a voice.
She said signs or symptoms of abuse in vulnerable children may be ‘explained away’ as part of their normal behaviour but CCTV, in her case, provided proof.
She said following the abuse, her child became overly cautious of people they would meet and that their personality "faded".
She, along with family members, are now demanding change.
