A local TD has accepted that data centres are a particular issue in Ireland.
It comes as Fianna Fáil and Kildare North TD Naoise O Cearúil has been appointed as chairperson of the Oireachtas Artificial Intelligence Committee.
Speaking on Kildare Today, he said that we seem to be taking on more data centres than other countries:
"It's a particular issue because of our climate, it suits data centres, but we need to look at how we can do it in a more efficient way that doesn't have an impact on households.
"It does seem in Ireland that we're taking on far more data centres than other countries."
Deputy O Cearúil, who has existing experience in the technology and AI industries, said that companies want to keep their data in the EU, adding that it needs to be looked at from a European Union perspective, "that isn't just focused in Ireland" and various Nordic countries.
Mr Byrne has been awaiting the outcome of a urine sample test, and says he will take whatever punishment may be forthcoming in the event of a prosecution.
