A majority of Naas councillors have voted to suspend pay parking in Kildare County Council owned and operated car parks in the Naas Municipal District from Monday, 15 December to Wednesday, 31 December.
The motion was passed by Cllrs Bill Clear, Seamie Moore, Evie Sammon, Carmel Kelly, and Ger Dunne.
It was voted against by Cllrs Fintan Brett and Anne Breen.
Yesterday, Kfm News reported how Friends of the Irish Environment (FIE) waded into the Christmas parking debate in Naas - telling councillors that “free parking” is climate-unfriendly and even bad for retailers.
The group had written to Naas Municipal District cllrs ahead of today’s meeting, urging them to reject the proposal.
