The road is being held for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
The R402 at the Kishawanny Road junction remains closed, with local diversions in place.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.
Anyone who was travelling in the area between 5.45am and 6.45am and has dash-cam or other footage is asked to make it available.
