The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission says Straffan resident and former MMA fighter Conor McGregor breached consumer law by failing to clearly label paid promotions for his Forged Irish Stout brand in three posts published last June.
Ireland’s consumer watchdog has issued compliance notices to two influencers over undisclosed advertising on Instagram.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) says Straffan resident and former MMA fighter Conor McGregor breached consumer law by failing to clearly label paid promotions for his Forged Irish Stout brand in three posts published in June 2024.
The regulator said the content did not include clear identifiers such as “Ad” or “#ad” and directed him to bring his accounts into line with advertising rules.
He was warned that his social media platforms would be monitored to ensure compliance.
Beauty entrepreneur Suzanne Jackson has also been served with a notice.
The CCPC said posts promoting SOSU Cosmetics did not make clear that they were commercial communications.
Four separate breaches linked to Ms Jackson occurred between December 2024 and February last year.
A compliance notice requires a person or company to correct a breach of consumer law.
Failure to do so can result in a fine of up to €5,000 and the possibility of a prison sentence.
