The Minister for Housing says he is "keen" that Kildare County Council adds to the "pipeline" of construction of its own social homes.
Darragh O'Brien was responding to a parliamentary question from Kildare North Fine Gael TD, Bernard Durkan.
The Minister says "Kildare County Council already has a social housing construction programme in train"
The local authority has been tasked with delivering 558 new social homes by build programmes this year.
The Dept. of Housing also expects its to create 153 social homes, through leasing.
The Minister adds "The precise projects that will be advanced over the course of 2021, are a matter for Kildare County Council who have direct authority in this area. "
Deputy Durkan had asked the Minister to detail "the extent to which adequate funding and authority remains available to Kildare County Council to purchase or build sufficient housing units to meet the very high demand in the area; and if he will make a statement on the matter."
