A motorist in Kildare has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
Naas Roads Policing Unit detected the motorist at 177kmh in a 120 kmh zone.
Gardai say the driver now faces a court appearance and "risks being disqualified from driving for up to 2 years and a possible fine of up to €5,000."

In a separate operation, numerous speed detections were made during an operation near Sallins last night.
Naas RPU found 4 motorists travelling above the local 80kph speed limit.
One driver was clocked at 114kph.
Fines and penalty points have been issued in all cases.

While Naas RPU, during a checkpoint, found this driver was an unaccompanied learner with no permit or licence.
The car was seized and proceedings are to follow.
