A Naas-based sculptor is continuing the work on his third major commission.
Originally from Kilkenny, Aidan has relocated to Naas, with a studio space in his house, allowing him to undertake his craft in the comfort of his own home.
Transitioning from his previous career as an IFTA-winning animation director, he spoke about his will to work on his own, eventually moving into the area of fine art.
Speaking on Kildare Today, he explained the learning process necessary to develop his sculpting skills:
"I've had horror shows, I've had armatures collapse half way through building up, and things like that you only learn by doing it. I think I might've slept for a day after that.
"That's part of the challenge and it's what's interesting about it, you have to kind of measure twice and cut once."
Aidan opened up about his biggest inspirations, from mythology and folklore, to the excitement of bringing something to real life.
"When I feel like I'm getting towards finishing a sculpture, it's when I feel there's another personality in the studio with me. That's when you know you're onto something."
Even though he's "sworn to secrecy" on his newest project, he revealed that it will be the large sculpture will be situated on the M7 "this time next year".
"Every hour God gives me I'm working on it, every little aspect of it. It's quite a bit bigger than me so I'm climbing up and down on platforms all day, you'd sleep at night after working on it anyway."
