The backlog comes despite continued high levels of activity at the Naas test centre, where no-shows remained significant throughout 2025, with missed appointments ranging from the low 20s to a peak of 70 in October.
Almost 2,000 people were waiting for a driving test in Kildare at the end of 2025, new figures show.
A total of 1,975 applicants were on waiting lists across all categories in the county as of December 31st, with 1,797 of those waiting for a standard Category B car test.

There were 46 no-shows in Novermber and 40 in December.
Separate figures for 2024 show learners in Naas were waiting well above the RSA’s 10-week target for much of that year - starting at 27 weeks in January and reaching 31 weeks in October before easing to 24 weeks by December.
Nationally, more than 56,000 people were waiting for a Category B test at the end of 2025, contributing to an overall backlog exceeding 61,000.
