New Car Sales Increase In Kildare, With EV Sales Up By 44% On Last Year

The county now accounts for 4.6% of the national market.

New car sales in Kildare rose strongly this year, with 5,640 registrations from January to September 2025, up 7.7% on the same period last year (5,238).

Electric cars are driving much of this growth.

1,372 new battery-electric vehicles (EVs) were registered in Kildare so far this year – a 44.9% increase on 2024 (947).

The rise comes as the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) warns that Government incentives must remain “a necessity” in Budget 2026 to keep momentum in the switch to electric.

Grants, tax relief, and 0% BIK (Benefit-In-Kind) thresholds are due to expire at the end of next year, with SIMI urging their extension to avoid slowing progress.

Nationally, car registrations in September rose nearly 10% year-on-year, while EV sales jumped 73% for the month alone.
