Amyloidosis is caused by deposits of abnormal protein – amyloid – in tissues and organs throughout the body.
Without treatment it can lead to organ failure and death.

Pat had campaigned for a number of years for the HSE to make available the drug available to patients in Ireland, which the HSE approved last July.
He was interviewed by Kfm’s Kildare Today programme on a number of occasions regarding his illness – most recently in February, 2021.
In the latter stages of his illness Pat never missed an opportunity to send a witty text or WhatsApp graphic to the station – often from his hospital bed.
A man of great personality, he was universally popular, whether covering social or sporting events within the county or nationally.
A loyal Lilywhite is gone, but not forgotten.
