It's designed to offer the vaccine to students who may have missed earlier opportunities.
The government's announced the next phase of the HPV Catch Up Programme will begin with students in fifth and sixth year of secondary school.
Its designed to offer a further vaccination opportunity to young people, both male and female, who may have missed earlier opportunities to receive the HPV vaccine.
The programme, which was initially launched in memory of the late advocate Laura Brennan in 2022, will be delivered primarily through schools.
The Irish Cancer Society has welcomed the news and says it needs to be made permanent and that young people post-secondary school up to the age of 24 also need a second chance too.
