No Change To Youth Minimum Wage Rates Until At Least 2029

Under current legislation, employers can pay workers under 20 a lower rate of the minimum wage, with some 18-year-olds receiving 80 percent of the full rate.

Changes to the minimum wage for young workers aren't expected until at least 2029.

People Before Profit is calling for the system to be abolished, arguing all workers should receive equal pay.

Employment Minister Peter Burke responded, stating the opposition’s position does not reflect the realities of the labour market.
