Cllr O'Dwyer said as a former nurse, she was shocked by Cllr McDonnell's remarks.
Independent Cllr Tom McDonnell raised some eyebrows yesterday at a full Kildare council meeting when he suggested that SPF can cause cancer.
His response was made after Fine Gael Cllr Peggy O'Dwyer, a former Nurse at Naas General Hospital, asked the council to explore the installation of sunscreen dispensers at various sporting facilities across the county.
In response, Cllr McDonnell said sunscreen causes cancer.
Cllr O'Dwyer said that as a former nurse, she was shocked by Cllr McDonnell's remarks.
She explained how she has dealt with numerous people who have been treated for skin cancer and called on Cllr McDonnell to "withdraw" his remarks.
She said it was an "extraordinary statement".
It is understood that Cllr McDonnell refused to withdraw his statement.
