The Department of Education has released the preliminary results of the largest ever parent survey on school choices
Over 50 per cent of Kildare parents wish for their children's primary school to remain denominational, according to preliminary results of a new survey.
The Department of Education has released the preliminary results of the largest ever parent survey on school choices, which found nationally that approximately 60 per cent of parents of primary aged children wish to retain a denominational ethos.
In Kildare, 55.9 per cent of parents expressed a preference for their school's ethos to remain denominational, whilst 79.3 per cent said they would prefer their child in a single-sex primary school to transition to co-education.
87.5 per cent of Kildare parents said they would also prefer their primary school children to be taught primarily in English.
In the coming weeks, detailed school-specific reports will be issued to each of the more than 3,200 participating primary schools.
These reports will support patrons, Boards of Management, staff, and parents in considering next steps and their future direction.
The survey was launched in November 2025.
