The funding supports the repair, restoration and protection of historic structures from traditional homes to landmark public buildings
Over €200,000 has been announced for the conservation of historic buildings in Kildare under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS) 2026.
€230,804 has been given to Kildare's protection and conservation of historic buildings, which will support the repair, restoration and protection of historic structures from traditional homes to landmark public buildings.
The scheme covers restoration work to historic buildings such as roof and wall repairs and works on windows and doors.
Kildare projects funded today include:
- €14,000 for roofs and other works at Kildare Community Development Centre (formerly Presentation Convent), Kildare Town
- €12,000 for rainwater disposal and roofs at Cathedral Church of St. Brigid, Kildare
- €10,000 for external walls and historic ruins at Rathangan Church of Ireland, Leinster St., Rathangan
The funding is provided by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage’s National Built Heritage Service and is administered by the local authorities.
The funding announcement was made today by Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, James Browne TD, and Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, Christopher O’Sullivan TD.

€8.1 million has been awarded nationally through the Built Heritage Investment Scheme.
In addition to the public funding provided under BHIS, an estimated €35 million of private funds will be committed to these projects by owners and custodians, further enhancing the investment in Ireland’s built heritage and representing an effective partnership between the State, individuals and communities around the country.
