A planning application has been lodged to Kildare County Council for a €141m 118MW solar farm on 428-acres of land in Kildare.
The proposed plans, submitted by Cadamstown Solar Ltd, would see the solar farm built in the townlands of Cadamstown, Ballina, Clonuff and Garrisker.
The report states that the proposed development "will provide a stable and diversified source of revenue over a sustained period to landowners concerned while improving the ecological value of the site and safeguarding its reuse for agriculture in the future".
The total site area will be 173.3 hectares, and would comprise of "transformer stations and GRP enclosures, solar PV ground mounted on support structures, temporary construction compounds, access tracks (existing, new and upgraded), perimeter fencing, electrical cabling and ducting, CCTV and other ancillary grid infrastructure and associated works".
The solar farm would be operational for 40 years, according to the proposed planning application.
The report also states that "after the solar farm has been decommissioned, the site can revert back to open pasture".
