In addition to pushing for defibrillators in existing estates, Cllr Feeney said AEDs should be a standard feature in new housing developments.
Automated external defibrillators (AEDs) should be installed in housing estates.
The call came after an incident in which emergency services were called to assist a resident in Maynooth.
While waiting for paramedics to arrive, neighbours assisting at the scene questioned why defibrillators were not available in the area.
This prompted Cllr Angela Feeney to bring the issue forward, highlighting the critical role AEDs can play in saving lives during cardiac emergencies.
“Having a defibrillator on hand in these estates could save lives,” she said on Kildare Today, pointing out that minutes can be crucial in such situations.
However, the council clarified that they do not have direct responsibility for the installation of AEDs in housing estates and have referred the matter to the HSE.
