Figures supplied to Kfm from Kildare County Council reveal that more than half of social housing tenants are in arrears.
Out of the 5,600 social housing units managed by the council, 2,674 accounts recorded arrears of less than €1,000, amounting to €695,173.20.
Additionally, 475 accounts showed arrears ranging from €1,000 to €10,000, totalling €1,039,713.96.
7 accounts accumulated arrears between €10,000 and €20,000, reaching a total value of €100,721.86.
Three homes have been repossessed in the past three years.

According to the provisional data provided, at the close of 2023, Kildare County Council managed to collect 93% of the rents owed by council tenants.
A council official said its team collaborates with tenants to establish feasible payment plans aimed at clearing arrears over a reasonable period.
According to the council, it offers multiple avenues for rent payment, including a Payment App, Household Budget, Standing Order, and Rent Card, facilitating flexibility and convenience for tenants in meeting their obligations.
