A road collision which saw a secondary school student knocked down in Maynooth has prompted a review of the Moyglare road corridor.
The first year student in question was "knocked off her bike" after a car pulled out onto the road and collided with her.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Fianna Fáil Councillor for Clane-Maynooth MD Donna Phelan said that even though the student "wasn't injured", that a review for the road was needed.
Cllr Phelan said that the infrastructure where the cycle lane and the footpath should be "isn't fit for purpose".
"On paper, the infrastructure looks fine, but in reality, it's not."
Cllr Phelan made the point that three schools, Maynooth University, Maynooth GAA club and large housing estates are all along the road.
"For most days it works reasonably well, but for peak times when it becomes overcrowded it doesn't function at all."
She did however welcome the Kildare County Council update to review the route.
She also said that herself and Fianna Fáil Kildare North TD Naoise Ó Cearúil have both written to the NTA for a review of the route
