The concerns were voiced in his motion at a Clane-Maynooth MD meeting, which requested for an assessment to be undertaken for the introduction of traffic calming measures
Social Democrats Councillor Peter Melrose for Clane-Maynooth MD has raised concerns about speeding on the Moyglare Road.
He had put forward a motion at last weeks meeting for the council to undertake an assessment of Moyglare Road in Maynooth, with the view to introducing traffic calming measures.
Speaking on Kildare Today, he believed that speeding was a problem on the road:
"It's getting to the point where the council need to look at introducing traffic calming measures. As you come in from Kilcock onto the Moyglare Road in Maynooth, [the speed] is 50km/h before you get to the link road and the education campus, and people are completely ignoring that."
He was particularly concerned in relation to the amount of children walking alongside the road:
"Between here and then we've got two post-primary schools, Gaeilscoil Ruairí, Maynooth GAA and the Moyglare pitchess, that's a lot of children and vehicles are going way too fast."
In response, Kildare County Council said that Moyglare road was updated a few years ago and that safety audits were completed at the time, adding that the Municipal District office will arrange for a traffic count and speed survey to be carried out.
