At the 2021 All Ireland Community & Council Awards
The Royal Canal Greenway has won the 'Best Tourism Initiative' at the 2021 All Ireland Community and Council Awards.
The trail was developed by Waterways Ireland in partnership with the four Local Authorities of Kildare, Meath, Westmeath and Longford - running thriugh Ireland’s Ancient East and Hidden Heartlands.
The 130km trail begins in Maynooth, following the canal passing through other towns in Co. Kildare, Kilcock & Enfield.
The Greenway just recently celebrated it's first birthday, announcing over 600,000 visits within the 12 months, while deriving €17.2 million for the local economies.
The Royal Canal Greenway is a finalist in the European Bike Route of the Year 2022.
