Sinn Fein Mary Lou McDonald recently suggested that Kildare South TD Patricia Ryan resigned from the party because of competition.
Cllr Shónagh Ní Raghallaigh has been selected as the Sinn Féin candidate for the Kildare South constituency.
A spokesperson for the party said the selection process in Kildare South highlighted the "democratic values central to Sinn Féin's mission".
“The only way that any Sinn Féin member can expect to have the honour of being selected to run for our party is by putting yourself forward at a selection convention and seeking the mandate of party members and peers. We must now regroup and get down to work for the people of this constituency," the spokesperson said.
Ní Raghallaigh said she is an advocate for education, culture, and social justice.
She has a background as a primary school teacher and a central role in the Kildare Palestine Solidarity Campaign (KPSC).
Sinn Fein Mary Lou McDonald recently suggested that Kildare South TD Patricia Ryan resigned from the party because of competition.
"Selection conventions are open conventions, and sometimes they are contested. Rules exist, and they are applied. What you're seeing now is the consequence of those rules," she said.
However, Deputy Ryan said she felt pushed out of Sinn Fein by party leadership.
