Children can also win hundreds of euro in cash.
Children in Athy are being encouraged to engage in Snapchat competitions to win cash and pre-rolled cannabis joints.
That's according to Sinn Féin local election candidate Thomas Redmond.
He said many parents wouldn't be aware of how readily available drugs are on Snapchat.
He recently raised the issue with Superintendent Paul Burke at a meeting in Casteldermot Community Centre.
He said children are being asked to share competitions to win pre-rolled flavoured cannabis joints and up to €800 in cash.
He said a parent in Athy contacted him recently after her son experimented with drugs bought via social media and had a severe reaction.
He said Gardai took details of the competition and are expected to look into it.
