The cancellation comes at a time when plans were underway to expand the service to weekends at the Athy Primary Care Centre.
Kfm understands that some staff at the Athy Primary Care Centre were not told of a temporary suspension of a mid-wifery lead service, only becoming aware after local women contacted them.
The HSE has confirmed to Kfm that the service has been cancelled due to "unplanned staff leave".
They said the service service "will only resume when staffing allows".
Service users will now be facilitated in The Spraoi Centre on the St Fintan's Campus, Portlaoise.
The HSE spokesperson has apologised to the women impacted.
The cancellation comes at a time when plans were underway to expand the service to weekends at the Athy Primary Care Centre.
Some local representatives were also informed that the service had not been cancelled, creating further confusion.
Kfm revealed last night how the service has been cancelled, with some pregnant women receiving a cancellatrion text less than 24 hours before their appointment.
Kfm understands that the service has also been cancelled in Portarlington, impacting some locals, particularly those in Monasterevin, who could have travelled to that location or the Athy clinic.
Women impacted will now have to travel to Portlaoise for appointments, meaning some could be forced to cancel their appointment or face delays.
The community midwife-led care service has provided essential prenatal support to pregnant women in Athy and surrounding areas.
Its cancellation has sparked concern among expectant mothers.
Kfm spoke to expectant mother Alice Sharkey from Athy.
She said she is aware of one pregnant woman who will have to travel to Kildare to get a train to travel to Portlaoise.
Alice's appointment in Athy was cancelled the day before she was due to attend.
Labour Kildare South TD Mark Wall said he was not made aware of the issue until Kfm broke the news.
He said he has since contacted the HSE, that the situation is "not on" and that he will be following it up.
He said services in local communities are vital, particularly for pregnant women.
