The existing St Farnan's Post Primary School school building will be demolished, paving the way for a new 2-storey school catering to 1000 students
Construction of the new school is expected to cost over €15 million.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Social Democrats Cllr Paula Mulroe said the school is "much-needed".
She said this year nineteen Section 29 appeals have been logged with the Department of Education by parents who can't find school places for their children, herself included.
She said the 1000-capacity school will be filled "in no time".
