There was an increase of 5,900% in the number of people, couples and families in Kildare in receipt of HAP in a 3 year period.
The Dept. of Housing released the data to Áontú TD, Peadair Tóibín.
In December 2015, there were 32 Housing Assistance Payment recipients in Kildare.
Under HAP, private landlords rent out their homes to tenants, and the local authority pays rent on the tenants' behalf.
The tenant then pays a contribution to the council.
There was a surge in HAP tenancies in the county in 2016, to 785.
That increased to 1,436 the year after, and to 1,892 by the end of 2018.
