Transport Minister Signals Possible Licensing And Insurance For E-Scooters

It comes as politicians in the UK announced scooters there may soon be required to display license plates and pass a safety test.

The Transport Minister says he'll soon be looking at licensing and insuring e-scooters.

Recently, a local TD called for stricter penalties on e-scooter use after a nine-year-old boy was knocked down on a footpath in Leixlip.

Fine Gael Kildare North TD Joe Neville witnessed the aftermath while coaching under-14 hurlers.

He’s questioned whether the current €50 on-the-spot fines go far enough and urged more Garda enforcement.

The Transport Minister's remarks come as politicians in the UK announced scooters there may soon be required to display license plates and pass a safety test.

Minister Darragh O'Brien says there's a chance the change could be introduced in Ireland too.
