The awards took place on Saturday at a gala ceremony in Monaghan
Two community groups based in Kildare have been honoured at the IPB Pride of Place community awards that took place on Saturday in Monaghan.
Straffan took first place in the Areas with a Population of 1,000-2,000, and Castlefen Housing Estate in Sallins came runner up in the Urban Neighbourhoods and Housing Estates.
Judges praised the commitment seen from the Straffan community volunteers, saying "a concise presentation demonstrated community energy, cohesion, activity and an immense sense of pride in the area. It also revealed a dizzying range of activities from community games to adult theatre.
“Crucially though, this town has managed to retain its built character and the mindset of a small deeply rooted rural community immensely committed to the place where they live".
