Recounting the plight of young people forced to live at home, he said a teenager from his area has to travel on a 150 km round trip each day to attend college because he can not find accommodation.
It's taking up to 20 years for some families in Kildare to secure a one bedroom council house.
That's according to Kildare South Labour TD Mark Wall.
He added that some families are waiting years for housing adaptation grants, leaving homeowners unable to modify their homes to meet their needs.
He said working families can not get onto the housing list or have been "taken off housing lists" and cannot access the housing assistance payment, HAP, because local authorities are assessing income from last year.
They are also taking into account temporary payments like jobseeker's benefit.
