However the number of stroke beds has risen by just 2%.
All 24 hospitals providing acute stroke care have a designated stroke unit.
Some Stroke Care in Leinster include Naas General Hospital, Tallaght University Hospital, The Mater Hospital, Beaumont Hospital, and St. Jame's Hospital.
73% of stroke patients were admitted to a stroke unit in 2024, which is up from 70% in 2021 however below the national target of 90%.
The report found persistent staffing deficits across all disciplines essential to specialist stroke care.
The report urges full implementation of the National Stroke Strategy 2022-2027, highlighting that without targeted investment in workforce and capacity, progress in stroke care will remain slow.
