Blood donation was one of the worst affected sectors during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Irish Blood Transfusion Service's annual report for 2021, reveals severe shortages led to it importing blood from Britain twice last year to keep up.
Despite there being a slight increase this year, chief executive officer of the service, Orla O’Brien, says even more is needed.
