A spire of a church in County Clare burst into flames last night after being struck by lightening.
Firefighters tamed the blaze in Ruan after the alarm was raised in the early hours of the morning at around 3.45am.
The ignited church spire collapsed to the ground while being tended to by emergency services.
The church itself suffered some water damage and the fire left part of the village without electricity.
