Fuel Allowance Recipients Could Get An Additional Lump Sum Payment

The proposed measure would be a three week lump sum.

Households in receipt of the fuel allowance could get an additional three week 'lump sum' payment.

Households could save a further €110 euro a year if the Government proceeds with a VAT cut on gas and electricity.

Another lump sum payment of €99 is also being considered for the 370 thousand people who are in receipt of fuel allowance.

It's among measures discussed by senior ministers last night to help with the rising energy costs.

A temporary reduction in VAT on gas and electricity from 13.5 to nine percent was also raised, along with a cut in the PSO levy on energy bills.

Cabinet will meet tomorrow to discuss and sign-off on the plans.
