Gardaí: Increase In Domestic Abuse Call Outs In 2021

Compared to 2020.

Gardai responded to more than 48-thousand 4-hundred domestic abuse incidents last year.

It represents a 10% increase when compared with figures from 2020.

The number of criminal charges which involved an element of domestic abuse was also up last year by 13 percent, to 8-thousand 6-hundred.

Gardai also reported 4250 breaches of Domestic Violence Act Orders last year, up 6 percent on 2020.

At the start of the pandemic, Gardai launched Operation Faoiseamh to proactively support domestic abuse victims as the country faced its first national lockdown.

Gardai are assuring people that they're still here to support and protect anyone impacted by domestic abuse as Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.
