Tainaiste Micheál Martin has welcomed the news saying Ireland will take its seat on the council at a time when our oceans are already facing significant challenges.
The Council is responsible for developing regulations on deep-sea mining, approving exploration and exploitations contract applications and overseeing the implementation of contracts.
