The 77-year-old former sports coach is on trial accused of sexually abusing four girls at various locations across Leinster during the 1970s and early 1980s.
Today, he pleaded guilty to five offences alleged to have occurred on various dates in 1976.
He has pleaded not guilty to the remaining charges.
The charges include numerous allegations of indecent assault and attempted rape.
Earlier a jury of six men and six women was sworn in.
Mr Justice Micheál P. O’Higgins instructed jurors not to discuss any of the evidence they hear with anyone, including family members or friends, during the course of the trial.
He also told them the trial is expected to last around three weeks.
The jury began hearing evidence this afternoon.
