He has invited the sector to discuss possible changes with him
Higher Education Minister and Kildare North TD James Lawless is suggesting students should be able to study a broader range of subjects in college, rather than specialising early.
He's accused universities of "gaming the system" by creating niche courses and therefore increasing CAO points.
Minister Lawless also said that "it would reduce pressure on points and allow students to access the different courses".
He added that it would benefit students in future employment:
"A student being a specialist in a particular area is less useful nowadays, when that particular area and sector changes every decade or maybe every year."
He's invited the sector to discuss possible changes with him.
