Kildare to Share in €68m Funding

8 Counties to benefit from Tourism grant

The Midlands is to receive a 68 million euro tourism funding boost.

Eight counties will benefit from the Just Transition Fund allocation.

The counties receiving funding are Kildare, Laois, Westmeath, Offaly, Longford, Roscommon, Galway and Tipperary

Fáilte Ireland has been allocated €68m under the EU's "Just Transition" funding to boost the tourism industry across eight counties in the Midlands.

The funding has been allocated to the National Tourism Development Authority to implement a "regenerative tourism and placemaking scheme" for the Midlands.

It encompasses four strands, which include trail development, visitor amenities, alternative low carbon accommodation and smart specialisation, which involves digital transformation.

Failte Ireland's Director of Product Development ,Orla Carroll says the scheme will target areas that were heavily dependent on peat production
